Client stories

Decisions made with the full monthly picture

Client accounts of salary comparisons, housing budgets, and first-month planning for relocations to Germany.

Traveller looking over a German city from a high viewpoint

“The Munich salary looked obviously better until we compared warm rent near both offices. I still chose Munich, but negotiated a relocation allowance and arrived knowing the first two months would be expensive.”
Elena, Two-Offer Comparison

“We had already made our own sheet, so some categories felt familiar. Mara’s ranges were more conservative than ours, particularly for temporary accommodation. That was frustrating for an hour and very useful once the first invoice arrived.”
Jon and Camille, First-Month Setup Call

“I was treating gross salary as though the same percentage always disappeared. Seeing the assumptions for tax class and statutory insurance helped me ask HR a precise question rather than just requesting more money.”
Tomas, Germany Move Budget

A Frankfurt offer with a partner still job-seeking

Nadia and her partner were moving from Lisbon. The offer covered one salary, while their preferred apartments assumed that both adults would soon be earning. Their budget session therefore used no second income for the first six months.

We separated cold rent, operating costs, heating, electricity, and the household broadcasting contribution. Three housing scenarios showed that an apartment near an S-Bahn connection outside the centre preserved a meaningful buffer without requiring a car. Nadia took that range into the search instead of using the maximum a landlord might accept.

The final plan did not predict when her partner would find work. It made that uncertainty affordable.

Similar pay, different commutes

Marcus had offers in Düsseldorf and Stuttgart with less than €3,000 between the gross annual salaries. The headline difference was not decisive. One role included a useful transport benefit and allowed two home-working days; the other required a longer regional commute.

Our comparison kept bonuses separate because neither was guaranteed. It then priced each commute and used current rental ranges for the neighbourhood types Marcus had actually chosen. The lower offer produced the more comfortable ordinary month.

He accepted it after confirming the home-working arrangement in writing. The point was not that lower pay is better—it was that this particular package left more time and a similar monthly margin.

What these accounts can and cannot show

Client names may be shortened for privacy, and identifying employer details are omitted. Experiences are individual. German payroll deductions, rents, and household spending vary; a testimonial is not a promise that another move will have the same outcome.
